This year marks a significant milestone for Laurie George, Ph.D., who is celebrating 25 years of dedicated service to United Way of Palm Beach County (UWPBC).
As the President and CEO, George has spent decades shaping the organization’s efforts to improve lives and build a stronger community. Under her leadership, United Way has expanded its reach, fostering partnerships with local businesses, nonprofits, philanthropic organizations and government agencies to address the critical needs of County residents.
George’s deep connection to Boca Raton is evident in her work. “Boca Raton is more than just a city; it’s a community with a heart for giving,” she says. “The financial and volunteer-based support we receive here is vital, not just for Boca Raton, but for the entire county.”
Through donations, UWPBC helps fund more than 100 programs and initiatives focused on empowering healthy lives, stabilizing families and helping youth succeed.
With programs that reach every corner of Palm Beach County, George emphasizes that collaboration between individuals, businesses and local organizations is key to creating lasting change.
Under George’s guidance, UWPBC has become a leading force in tackling systemic issues like hunger, educational needs and access to healthcare. Her unwavering commitment to uniting the community has helped raise millions of dollars to support these critical causes, empowering the most vulnerable residents.
One constant that remains a quarter century after George joined UWPBC is the need for community support to help those struggling.
“In our County, 173,000 people are food insecure, 51,000 of whom are children. By supporting UWPBC, you invest in your neighbors and the future of our community. Every financial donation, volunteer hour and partnership strengthens our community by transforming lives, and fostering a brighter future for all,” George states.
As she reflects on her 25 years with United Way, George remains driven by her vision of a more equitable and connected community.
“With the continued support of Boca Raton and communities throughout Palm Beach County, we can create opportunities for everyone to thrive,” she says.
George’s legacy of service is a testament to the power of unity, and her work inspires countless others to get involved. She invites readers to learn more by visiting the UWPBC website.
