‘What You Do Matters’ Dinner

U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum Honors Craig and Barbara Weiner

The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum will host its 2022 “What You Do Matters” South Florida Dinner Jan. 25 at 6 p.m. at Boca West Country Club.

Craig and Barbara Weiner, founders of the Craig and Barbara Weiner Holocaust Reflection and Resource Center at Nova Southeastern University in Davie, will be honored with the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum Southeast Regional Leadership Award. The Weiners have been staunch supporters of the museum for nearly three decades.

The Craig and Barbara Weiner Holocaust Reflection and Resource Center is visited by middle and high schools throughout the school year. In 2013, the Weiners partnered with NSU to establish the annual State of Florida Holocaust Reflection Contest for middle and high school students.

“We are privileged to honor Craig and Barbara Weiner for their commitment to Holocaust education,” says Robert Tanen, director of the Museum’s Southeast region. “At a time when Holocaust denial and antisemitism persist, education is the most effective tool and the Weiners are dedicating their retirement years to prioritizing Holocaust education in South Florida.”

Boca Raton residents Sam and Bilha Ron will serve as the dinner’s honorary chairs and have been members of the museum since 1991, before the museum opened. Sam, a 97-year-old Holocaust survivor, donated his family artifacts to the museum to be preserved and digitized in perpetuity.

The dinner will feature guest speaker Dr. Michael Berenbaum, the project director who oversaw the creation of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C.

The Boca Raton Observer is the event’s exclusive magazine sponsor.
