Holy Ground Palm Beach County Celebrates New Home For Young Homeless Mothers

Dozens of supporters recently helped Holy Ground Palm Beach County celebrate the opening of its new apartments for young homeless mothers. The newly renovated Stockard Family Campus, located on Broadway Avenue in West Palm Beach, will be home to mothers and their children who were previously homeless. The building also boasts a community space, an area for counseling and room for classes.

"We are so grateful to our donors who helped make this dream a reality," says Donna McLoughlin, board president of Holy Ground Palm Beach County. "This is truly a dream come true, and we couldn't have done it without the extensive community support and hard work of those who believed in our vision."

Statistics from the Children's Services Council of Palm Beach County indicate that teen mothers are more likely to live in poverty and less than half of all teen moms will ever graduate high school. Daughters born to teen moms are more likely to become teen mothers themselves, while sons are twice as likely to serve time in prison. Children of teen mothers are also more likely to be born prematurely and have developmental issues.

Holy Ground helps to break the cycle of poverty for young women willing to make positive changes in their lives. The organization offers a safe place to live; mentorship; counseling; and classes, covering vocational skills, life lessons and parenting. Many of the young women in the program are enrolled in college or vocational programs. The long-term independent living program is focused on self-sufficiency and generational change. O
