DKJA To Celebrate 40th Anniversary With Space-Themed Annual Gala
On March 30 at The Polo Club of Boca Raton, Donna Klein Jewish Academy will celebrate its 40th anniversary at its annual benefit gala, themed “When Stars Align.”
Three individuals will be recognized for their dedication to the K-12 school and the community, and moments from the past four decades will be highlighted. The evening will include dinner, dessert, drinks, dancing and an auction; dietary laws will be observed.
The first honoree, Shirley Enselberg, will be receiving the Linda R. Kaminow Visionary Leadership Award. Enselberg was instrumental in founding the South County Jewish Community Day School, which eventually became DKJA.
Myrna Gross will receive the Lesley Zafran President’s Award for her leadership as president of the board of trustees when thoughts of a high school were beginning to emerge.
Finally, Jonathan Louis will be the first recipient of his namesake award, the inaugural Jonathan Louis Alumni Award, for his steadfast dedication and generosity to his alma mater.
The school has come a long way since its founding in 1979. Sam Klein renamed it Donna Klein Jewish Academy after his late wife in 1987, and DKJA moved into its current location on the Richard and Carole Siemens Jewish Campus four years later. In 1998, a high school was added, and, this year, it will celebrate its 18th graduating class.
DKJA now boasts alumni at prominent institutions, such as Princeton University, MIT and Dartmouth
College, and successful graduates, such as Cleveland Browns kicker Greg Joseph, “Project Runway” fashion designer Alex Snyder and award-winning Chef Ben Goldman.
