U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum Hosts 30th Anniversary Dinner

The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum will host its “What You Do Matters” 30th Anniversary South Florida Dinner Jan. 24 at Boca West Country Club.

Thirty years ago, the Museum opened its doors. Holocaust survivors fervently believed it would serve as, not only a lesson and a warning, but also an inspiration. While the Museum’s founders faced a daunting task, ours is no less challenging and increasingly urgent. Just as we are losing the eyewitnesses, antisemitism is on the rise and conspiracy theories and misuse of the Holocaust are taking hold.

“Together, with everyone’s support at the 30th Anniversary South Florida Dinner, we will respond to these challenges, not by complacency, but by imparting the evidence and relevance of the Holocaust today and for new generations,” said Robert Tanen, director of the Museum’s Southeast region.

CNN Legal Analyst Elie Honig will moderate a discussion entitled “Fleeing Atrocities: Witness Perspectives,” featuring two witnesses of mass atrocities nearly 80 years apart.

Marilyn Wallach, the event’s honorary chair, and family have been supporters of the Museum from the beginning, having attended Days of Remembrance commemorations in Washington, D.C. annually since its building opened in 1993. They continue to be generous supporters with a $5 million bequest to the institution.

Julie Peyton

The National Leadership Award will be presented to Julie Peyton, national patron and regional ambassador for the Museum, with her indelible mark educating and building national and global understanding of the atrocities of the Holocaust and other genocides.

The Boca Raton Observer is the event’s exclusive magazine sponsor.
