100 Years Of Wonder

The Happiest Place On Earth Celebrates A Big Birthday

by

Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Daisy have all been celebrating a huge milestone this year – 100 years of Disney. It was 100 years ago on Oct. 16 that Walt and his brother Roy founded the company that would become synonymous with being the Happiest Place on Earth.

The party kicked off on Jan. 27 at the Disneyland Resort in California, along with the launch of Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway ride. But the celebrations are spanning the globe with special events, foods, experiences and, of course, merchandise. In Florida, Epcot is serving as host of the 100th anniversary celebration.

Epcot will unveil a new platinum Mickey Mouse statue in front of Spaceship Earth (that’s the giant ball in front of the park). It also will light up each night with different colors and a special rendition of “When You Wish Upon a Star.”

There will be new attractions including Journey of Water, inspired by the film “Moana.” Guests can explore an outdoor trail in a lush environment that tells the story of the cycle of water and look for a new nighttime spectacular scheduled to launch in late 2023 that will light the sky over the World Showcase Lagoon.

For those who have a Disney Visa Card, now is the time to upgrade it with the 100 Anniversary celebration version featuring Mickey and Minnie. You’re going to need that credit card if you plan to visit.
