This Issue Showcases Women Making A Difference

Linda L. Behmoiras

While putting together our intriguing April Women’s Issue, we were reminded about how much women have contributed to the world – and how much still awaits our powerful voices.

In that vein, this issue showcases inspiring women making a difference while also exploring topics close to our hearts.

First, we chat with actress, author, mom and go-getter Tiffani Thiessen, who you might remember from her time on “Saved By The Bell” and “Beverly Hills 90210.” We caught up with this busy woman between creating a home-cooked meal, decorating with her children and relaxing with her husband. In “Her Next Act” (page 62), she shares tips for creating a harmonious home life and the inspiration for her newest book, “You’re Missing It!,” which offers lessons we can all take to heart.

It’s been almost 100 years since women began fighting for equal rights, and, yet, it’s still not the law of the land. “The Time Is Now” (page 68) offers an in-depth look at this all-important issue and the determined women fighting locally and nationwide to ensure that the Equal Rights Amendment is finally ratified.

Another woman fighting the good fight is Dr. Sandra Lee, a dermatologist and star of TLC’s “Dr. Pimple Popper.” The self-described “Pied Piper of pimples” chats with us about her rise to fame, gruesome growths she has removed, how to protect – and inspect – your skin and “when to pop and when to stop.” Check out “Pop Star” (page 72) for a profile that’s more than skin-deep.

Also on the health front: a look at debilitating autoimmune diseases impacting women. We were surprised to learn that 50 million people nationwide struggle with more than 100 autoimmune diseases. Even more shocking: 75 percent of those are women. “The War Inside” (page 78) explores the possible causes of this disparity as well as new medical advances on the horizon.

As women who do it all – and more – we deserve a bit of pampering now and then. (Is once a day too much?) Turn to “Lap Of Luxury” (page 82) for a tour of 10 relaxing and rejuvenating spas in South Florida where you can indulge in everything from a seven-step Ritual Bath to a Red Carpet Facial. Sign me up!

Whatever your passion, remember that – as women – we can do it all. See you next month.

Best,
