Homeward Bound

Jane Austen nailed it when she said, “There is nothing like staying at home for real comfort.”

Home is our sanctuary, and in this wild and unpredictable world, a safe and nourishing spot we can call our own is what we truly need. I’ll admit, between my work and charity obligations and outings with family and friends, I’m not home as much as I’d like. But each time I walk through my front door, I automatically feel happy to be back.

What’s more, I am a big fan of decor and making a space shine with personality and purpose, which is why the March Home & Design Issue ranks high among my favorites! And how could it not? With the charming and talented real estate mogul Mauricio Umansky gracing our cover, in “Reeling In The Deal” (page 60) he takes us on a deep dive of what makes him tick, what makes LA a one-of-a-kind real estate market and how to make a house a home.

We’re blessed with double talent this month with our story “Designing Woman” (page 72) and the exceptional Galey Alix, a fascinating Fort Lauderdale-based interior decorator (and full-time Wall Street executive!) with a brand new HGTV show offering handy tips and insights on home design.

Speaking of homes, we’ve all caught glimpses of million-dollar properties on popular television shows. But just how much can money buy depending on your zip code? In “Rich Real Estate” (page 78), we’ll show you what “home sweet home” translates to in some top U.S. cities for the sum of five million dollars. And when it comes to interior decoration, the adage “everything comes back” certainly applies. Our piece on the comeback of chintz in ““Chintz Happens” (page 66) is a fascinating look at the resurgence of the once-extremely popular trend.

I don’t have to tell you how lucky we are to live in one of the prettiest places in the world. Beyond our beautiful country clubs and parks are an impressive array of homes. Our story “Family Matters” (page 84) showcases the stunning design of one of these phenomenal abodes.
