Toast To The Past

Start off the new year with a nod to the past.

Head to Loews Miami Beach Hotel, where you can relive the golden age of cocktails - with a twist.

The Bellhop Bar, a whimsical pop-up bar in the lobby of the hotel, "unpacks" daily from 5-7 p.m. But don't expect the typical bar setup. This one is cleverly constructed from a retrofitted steamer trunk full of handcrafted cocktails stored in antique apothecary-style bottles. The design is a throwback to the days when travelers packed wardrobe trunks for long journeys.

The creed here? "Let us unpack a cocktail for you." Libations include the Old Fashioned con Mango, with Angel's Envy Bourbon, mango-infused simple syrup, mango and orange bitters, and a dehydrated mango garnish, as well as the Miami Startini, with Hangar One Vodka, St. Germain liqueur, fresh starfruit juice, Cointreau and lemon juice. Wine is also available.

"The Bellhop Bar invites you to hit pause and savor something special," notes the hotel's website. "It's the perfect way to unwind - or kick off a night to remember."

Michael Murray, the hotel's director of food and beverage, adds: "The Bellhop Bar is an homage to the days of Henry Flagler's Florida East Coast Railway and the adventures of travelers from eras ago [offering] guests a locally handcrafted experience that celebrates the rich heritage of our vibrant city."

The Bellhop Bar is "unpacking" through mid-January, so get there soon and toast to a little nostalgia.
