Iconic Fort Lauderdale Restaurant Runway 84 Renovates, Re-opens

by

If you’ve lived in South Florida for any amount of time, you likely have heard of, and even been to, Anthony’s Runway 84. Now, after an eight-month, $4 million renovation, the iconic restaurant has re-opened with a new look and a shorter name — simply Runway 84.

Opened 40 years ago, the Fort Lauderdale landmark has traded its airplane motif for a new design that evokes the spirit of the old-school supper clubs of the 1930s and ‘40s. Think “Goodfellas.”

“The decision to close was not an easy one to make but it was the right one,” says owner Anthony Bruno. “A successful 40-year run is almost unheard of in this business. It was time to refresh and prepare for our next 40 years doing what we do best: make people feel like family.”

The menu is a mix of classics, favorites and new dishes. The Swordfish “Runway style” is among those that have made a return, while the Chicken Parmigiana dressed with a spicy vodka sauce, topped with melted mozzarella, crispy prosciutto and peas is new.

Known for its cocktails, the new Runway 84 doesn’t disappoint and offers a nod to the past. The drink menu includes Anthony’s Paper Plane, Woodford Reserve Bourbon, a mix of Amaro Nonino, Aperol, Passion Fruit and Fresh Lemon and Wheels Up, infused with Gray Whale Gin, St. Germain, Fresh Squeezed Lemon and Simple Syrup. And, for a top shelf libation, try one of the Reserve Cocktails — perhaps the First Class, created with Macallan Rare Cask, Campari and Manzanilla.

Runway 84 is located at 330 W. State Road 84, Fort Lauderdale. For more information, visit runway84.com
