Art Aficionados Rejoice!

Whether you’re a virtuoso or simply an art admirer, you’re not going to want to miss White Cube’s Off-Site Project in West Palm Beach.

This contemporary art gallery, which normally reserves its art showcases to its branches in London and Hong Kong, is hosting a temporary exhibition right here in South Florida displaying the works of artists Al Held, Sarah Morris and Takis. Having opened Jan. 28^th, there’s still time to enjoy the pop-up gallery before it ends on Feb. 27^th.

On display are Al Held’s “Luminous Construct” paintings, pieces that, according to the White Cube website, convey a “sense of disorienting internal space, reflecting the artist’s long-held interest in chaos theory and ever-increasing complexity of contemporary life.” Of his work, Held was quoted saying that he “would like to show that chaos with its multiplicity of choices and possibilities can be viewed as a welcoming environment.” Given the uncertainties of today’s world, these pieces are as timely as ever.

In addition to Held, White Cube is also exhibiting work by Athenian artist Takis, widely known for having creating works that explore and challenge the relationship between art and science. You’ll be pulled into a state of wonder as you explore his best-known sculpture series, titled “Signals.”

The third artist to be honored at the exhibition is Sarah Morris. Known for creating art that is multi-layered and open to interpretation, Morris describes her own work as “vivid, graphic ‘afterimages’ of the world we live in. I believe that color and scale transform environments,” she says. “My paintings become a type of architecture that one lives inside.”

She’s particularly excited to present a series that takes inspiration from the sounds of the world. “The ‘Sound Graph’ paintings were first shown in London,” she says, “and have never been seen before in the United States.” To create this series, she takes sound waves from audio recordings and uses them as a foundation for what will become a visual masterpiece. By using audio as her visual medium, “language becomes image,” according to the website, “attesting to the impossibility of a painting ever being truly ‘abstract.’”

The directors of the gallery are encouraging those who plan on coming to book appointments before arriving. The exhibition is open every day from Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sundays as well from noon to 5 p.m. Face masks are mandatory and large bags and backpacks are not allowed inside.
