Chesterfield Palm Beach Makes Eco-Friendly Pledge

With Earth Day just a few weeks away – and with the planet’s environmental future top-of-mind for people worldwide – here’s some good news out of The Red Carnation Hotel Collection, whose parent company, The Travel Corporation, is based in Boca Raton.

The Chesterfield Palm Beach has announced that it will eradicate all single-use plastics by 2022.

“In an effort to reduce plastic waste and protect our environment, The Chesterfield has done away with all plastic straws since December 2017 and have replaced the plastic straws with environmentally friendly recycled paper and stainless steel alternatives,” according to a press release.

The Red Carnation Hotel Collection has made such eco-friendly changes at all of its 17 boutique hotels. In addition to replacing plastic straws, they’ve also modified their use of to-go coffee cups and lids, which have been replaced with compostable paper and corn starch versions; plastic cups in staff kitchens; and single-use butter and jam portions.

Further, the property supports the Loggerhead Marinelife Center nonprofit in Juno Beach. Hotel staff members and guests regularly participate in beach clean-ups to remove debris and help protect nesting sea turtles.

“All the debris removed is transferred to the sea turtle hospital and scientifically sorted in compliance with NOAA and Ocean Conservancy best practices, which enables scientists to analyze marine debris trends to better identify how to reduce the most troublesome debris types,” according to a press release. “We also supported this cause by adopting an injured loggerhead sea turtle, our Green Team Mascot TNT, who was successfully nurtured back to health and released back into the Atlantic Ocean.”
