Exceptional Pet Care With Kindness And Compassion

Ever since she can remember, veterinarian Dr. Lesley Hack’s passion was to “fix things.”

It’s what her daughter told her kindergarten class her mother did for a living. 

“When I picked her up from school, they said, ‘What do you fix?’ They thought I was a handyman,” she recalls. “We lived on a farm in South Africa, and, if a horse had colic, I ‘fixed it.’ If a dog needed to have a C-section, I ‘fixed it.’ I had to improvise; I didn’t have sophisticated facilities in the middle of the bush.”

Two decades later, Dr. Hack still has the same passion for animals but in a very different setting: the Boca Veterinary Clinic, a state-of-the-art, 7,000-square-foot animal hospital and clinic shat she runs and where she serves as medical director. 

Using sophisticated diagnostics and equipment, the hospital has two surgery centers, ultrasound machines, CT scan machines, radiology equipment, a dental center, anesthesia monitoring equipment and an in-house lab for quick results. 

“We can handle any procedure,” Dr. Hack says. “Say a dog comes in for a checkup and a doctor says, ‘I don’t like something,’ they can order a chest X-ray and then, 10 minutes later, can prep them for surgery. It’s all right here in our hospital.”

Costs for services are never inflated, and doctors are carefully chosen for their expertise and communication skills, she says.

“Between seven doctors, we have 80 years of experience amongst us. We built this from the ground up, and our focus is on kindness and competence; that’s very important to me.”

Dr. Hack is particularly proud of the cases where she was able to extend the life of a pet who had a terminal illness, like cancer.

The clinic also offers non-medical pet services, including daycare, grooming and cage-free boarding. The clinic is open seven days a week, with evening hours and walk-in urgent care to accommodate pet owners’ varying schedules.

Dr. Hack says: “What makes me the most proud and happy is ‘fixing things’ and making animals better – that’s my driving force.”
