The Doctor Will See You Virtually Anywhere

Ana Silva, DO, launched a fully virtual endocrinology practice, Florida Endocrine Consultants in Wellington, in September 2019. While many of her colleagues were playing catch-up, she was way ahead of the telehealth curve.

“The pandemic has made it so that people now understand what a virtual visit is, and they have embraced it,” says Dr. Silva, who is a double board certified internist and endocrinologist.

She treats patients with thyroid disorders, diabetes, PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) and obesity as well as those in need of glucose monitoring.

“Many diseases that I treat are directly linked to excess weight,” she says. “Using a comprehensive approach to weight loss, we are able to achieve wellness and reduce disease burden, ultimately helping patients take back their health.”

Dr. Silva operates a concierge practice, limiting the number of patients she accepts. This allows them not only to choose the length of their appointments, creating a rush-free environment, but it gives them direct access to her 24/7. Patients love the fact that they see her from the privacy and comfort of their home or office.

“It’s important to me that my patient leaves comfortable, confident and able to manage their day-to-day with whatever diagnosis they have,” she says.

Prior to launching her telemedicine practice, Dr. Silva felt like everything was rushed.

“Patients would get 10 minutes, and I would see it in their face when they didn’t feel like they had all of their questions answered,” she says.

Limiting her patient load allows her to spend more time with the ones she treats, answering all of their questions. She believes knowledge is power and educating patients is the key to getting better. Lifestyle modification, disease prevention and improving quality of life for patients is her focus.

“I do a lot of coaching for lifestyle changes,” she says. “My goal is to impact their lifestyle so that they can go off their medication.”
