Appeals and Civil Litigation Attorneys

Four female partners at boutique law firm Hunker Appeals bring diversity and unique backgrounds to specialized areas in post-verdict appeals, trial support, civil litigation, complex family law cases, medical malpractice, legal malpractice, employment law, healthcare law and more.

“We also consider ourselves litigation closers,” says partner Althea Bryan Farr, who has a significant background in critical care nursing management and a passion for health law. “Attorneys hire our firm to assist as fee experts and to handle difficult litigation. We pride ourselves on excelling in both the procedural and substantive areas of law.”

With a number of cases at both the state and federal level, Hunker Appeals — which also includes managing partner Tom Hunker and partner Jon Woods — stands out with the partners’ ability to focus their full attention on the cases they take.

“The firm’s focus is grounded in delivering a quality work product, as such, we use our backgrounds to bring value,” says partner Keisha Hall, who is a litigator with a background in business, banking, labor law, and legal malpractice. “Our Appellate work is a sophisticated area for clients who desire to challenge a court’s ruling,” she says.

Firm partner Sarah Hafeez has experience in all aspects of appellate litigation, including briefing, research, analysis and oral arguments. Hafeez says “Appellate work requires a lot of brain power.”

A former college English professor, partner V. Ashley Paxton has her master’s degree in English and a passion for research. She has worked on the largest Medicare fraud case in the country and specializes in parental alienation cases.

“We are seeing a rise in this area of family law — custody issues with one, or sometimes both of the parents, manipulating children to reject the other parent. There is social science and a lot of psychological layers involved,” Paxton says.

All of the firm’s partners collaborate and work together to find the best strategy and outcome. The firm has grown to 15 employees and recently opened an office in Atlanta.

“There is a breadth and depth to our resumes. We bring passion, excellence and empathy, which allows us to forge ahead at being the best at what we do,” Bryan Farr says.
