For Lisa Ricci, Variety Is The Spice Of Life

Lisa Ricci met her boss, interior designer Steven Gurowitz, in an unconventional way. She was working for Architectural Digest, and he was her client. On the day they were to meet, Steven G., as he is known to all, kept her waiting – and waiting – while he multitasked. Finally, she walked out.

“I had other appointments, so I left,” says Ricci. “He came chasing after me. He liked my moxie and offered me a job a week later.”

After a few months of playing hard to get, she accepted his proposal. That was more than 17 years ago. Today, Ricci is chief jack-of-all-trades.

“I am the marketing director, ad director, client developer/relations director, sales manager, and I run the broker referral program,” she says.

Ricci relishes the fact that no two days are alike. One day, she may be shooting photos or designing ads; the next, she’s working with Realtors to set up client appointments or touring clients through the firm’s 100,000-square-foot Pompano Beach showroom. She also handles the charity arm of Interiors by Steven G., a huge passion of hers.

“I get up in the morning and never know what I am going to do,” Ricci says. “If you can’t put on your roller skates, then this job isn’t for you.” 

Interiors by Steven G. launched 35 years ago this June, and its designers work on projects around the world. Ricci is working on a coffee table book to commemorate the anniversary.

All clients, regardless of budget, get the royal treatment: from a chauffeured car for those who need transportation to and from the showroom to concierge services once they arrive.

“Everyone gets the white glove treatment,” says Ricci.

Like her boss, she has a true passion for interior design: “Even after all of these years, when I sit in a meeting with Steven and he talks about different design ideas, it still amazes me.”
