Boca Raton’s Largest Outdoor Training Facility

Florida is known for its sunshine and amazing weather. However, few, if any, local gyms let you train outside. That’s where Johnny O’s Gymnasium in Boca Raton comes in. 

The gym, which opened in January, is Boca Raton’s largest outdoor training facility. Take an outdoor group class. Flip tires. Do some lunges.

“When we were creating this gym, we thought, ‘We’re in South Florida. We’re in great weather,’” says Alisha Olsen, who co-owns the gym with her husband, Johnny. “‘Why do so few gyms cater to that?’”

The outdoor area has been an immediate success. 

“The options are limitless,” says Olsen. “We knew the outdoor area was going to be a hit. It’s exceeding our expectations. Every day, a trainer comes up to me and says, ‘You have no idea how much easier you’ve made my job. I never run out of exercises to do on the outdoor turf.’” 

Fitness has always been in Olsen’s blood. Her mother was a runner, her father was a heavyweight boxer and her uncle was a bodybuilder. Growing up in Iowa, she ran track and lifted weights in high school. In college, she competed in figure competitions. She spent her early career with a bariatrics company, working with clients who were 450 pounds to 750 pounds. She even worked as a trainer for the TLC show “600-Pound Mom” (now “My 600-Lb Life”). 

Her husband is a fitness icon, personal training consultant and fitness model who owned gyms on Cape Cod in Massachusetts. Now, they’ve fulfilled their dream of owning a gym together.

“I love maintaining personal relationships with so many great people,” says Olsen. “I’m meeting people from different backgrounds and ages.”

The gym offers a free seven-day trial in addition to an unlimited group training membership, an unlimited gym access membership with the ability to use the outdoor area, or a combination membership.
