“I’m Still Standing” Is This Attorney’s Theme Song

Marianne Coulton found her love of numbers at an early age. As a child, she helped her father, an accountant, type up his clients’ W-2 tax forms. She later went to college, eventually earning her CPA. Law school followed, and she graduated from Northwestern University School of Law cum laude in 1991 and was admitted to The Florida Bar in 2006.

Eighteen years ago, breast cancer struck, and other health problems followed. She took a break from practicing law. However, she never lost her love for numbers and the law, keeping on top of the latest developments along the way.

“I am a survivor,” says Coulton. “When I retired, I thought I would never recover enough to practice again, but I have had an unbelievable recovery with the help and support of my husband, Donald Braverman.”

She has rehung her shingle in Boynton Beach and, with many continuing legal education hours under her belt, is once again practicing law.

Her practice focuses on tax and estate planning, probate, corporate and business law, and litigation. She helps people prepare for their financial future and, if they failed to do so, assists them with their probate matters. When she practiced in Chicago, Coulton was a member of the National Network of Estate Planning Attorneys.

“People ask me to review their wills, create living – or, as I like to call them, ‘loving’ trusts,” she says. “You can save a lot of time and money creating a living trust.”

She also assists clients who owe the IRS money by negotiating settlements.

“Clients don’t understand what they need to do until they talk to a professional,” she says.

Coulton also assists businesses in writing and reviewing contracts; negotiating deals; and handling a wide range of matters, including employment agreements, breach of contract and partnership dissolution.

Although she also engages in litigation, it’s not always her first choice.

“I try not to resort to litigation right away. If I can avoid it, I will,” she says.

Clients who hire Coulton can rest assured she will do her best to resolve their issues, and she holds herself to the highest professional standards.

“I hold confidentiality near and dear to my heart,” she says. “It’s a major consideration for my clients, and it’s uppermost in my mind because it is so important.”
