Rafina Greek Taverna

Consistency Is Key

When Yanni Agelopoulos, Paul Tzikas and William Diamond launched Rafina Greek Taverna four years ago, they knew that the way to succeed was to remain true to their vision.

“Being Greek and knowing the cuisine, we knew it would catch on. We just needed time,” says Agelopoulos.

And catch on it did. Today, Rafina Greek Taverna is not only a neighborhood favorite, but it also attracts diners from all over South Florida.

“Some customers come here just for a gyro wrap and salad, while others sit down to a full course meal,” Agelopoulos says. “We have good-quality food, and we don’t break the bank.”

Tucked away at The Boardwalk at 18th Street, the 220-seat restaurant features indoor and outdoor dining with beautiful views of a lake.

“You can’t find a better meal on the water in Boca Raton. People come in for the food, the wine and the view,” Agelopoulos says.

Start your meal with Rafina’s classically prepared Hummus, thick and creamy Tzatziki and other dips served with warm pita. Or try the succulent Grilled Octopus, marinated in olive oil and red wine vinegar, and the Zucchini Chips.

Patrons rave about the succulent Lamb Chops, marinated in fresh herbs and garlic and charbroiled to perfection. Other favorites include the Moussaka, with layers of eggplant and potatoes, topped with ground beef and béchamel sauce; the Spanakopita, a traditional spinach pie featuring a flaky phyllo-dough pastry; and the Mediterranean Sea Bass, flown in from London, which is fresh, flavorful and perfectly seasoned.

Guests are wowed by the extensive wine menu, with selections from around the world, as well as the craft cocktail menu. Happy hour is from 3-6 p.m. daily, featuring both an indoor and outdoor bar, along with a selection of appetizers.

Portions are generous, but don’t leave before dessert. Try the homemade Baklava or the Ekmek Kataifi, made with layers of lightly syruped kataifi dough, baked until crispy and golden, and topped with a cool custard. It’s to die for.
