The Firm That Won’t Take No For An Answer
The word “no” isn’t in the vocabulary of Stephanie J. Toothaker, Esq., chairwoman and chief strategist at her eponymous firm, Toothaker.org. To get a “yes,” she recently wrote a project-specific set of development rules, so a project could meet everyone’s approval.
“There’s always a way to get there,” she says. “So, I think outside the box.”
Toothaker has two decades of experience representing private equity firms, innovative companies and entrepreneurial individuals. In the development arena, she activates property rights through land use plan amendments and zoning modifications for complex mixed-use projects and site plan approvals in the commercial, residential, sporting, marine and hospitality sectors.
“Our in-house planning makes us more agile,” says Toothaker. “It provides an edge to create landmark projects.”
Toothaker is also recognized for her expertise on procurement and public/private P3 initiatives, merging private sector investment with public sector assets to create exciting results. In all aspects of her practice, she guides clients using a sophisticated approach, navigating multiagency processes and meeting aggressive timelines.
“Our team solves problems others cannot,” says Toothaker. “We get things done.”
Sporting and lifestyle events add global reach and cache to Toothaker’s practice. Clients have included David Beckham’s Inter Miami (built in a record eight months, she says), Red Bull, Swatch Beach Volleyball Major Series and Informa’s Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, the world’s largest.
Toothaker loves her job and treasures her clients and the trust they place in her.
“I pinch myself all the time,” she says. “I am so fortunate to work with groups like Tavistock, Kolter and the Kushner Companies, people creating the future — and I get to help them do it.”
A Fort Lauderdale native and mother to Wyeth-Parker (“My inspiration in all I do,” she says), Toothaker has regularly contributed to Florida Trend and the Sun-Sentinel and is involved with civic organizations throughout South Florida. And, this year, she will once again turn “no” into “yes” as the first female commodore of the Lauderdale Yacht Club, breaking an 80-year glass ceiling.
