The oldest son of Donna Glenn, who sits on the board of United Way of Palm Beach County, recently married. The milestone made her reflect on the philanthropic lessons she’s taught her sons. “I hope the example I’ve set for my kids has a lasting benefit,” she says. “As they build their nest eggs, I hope that they find ways to give back to the community.”

United Way of Palm Beach County is a nonprofit organization that invests in 110 programs and initiatives in Palm Beach County to ensure everyone can access food, education and healthcare. “I’ve been giving to United Way my entire adult life,” she says.

Glenn has been chief actuary at NCCI in Boca Raton since 2020, where she leads a team of 100+ actuaries and analysts. She focuses on fostering a healthy workers compensation system. Prior to NCCI, she was on the business’ private side, working for large insurance companies like Liberty Mutual Insurance and Travelers Insurance. “After 30 years of working on the for-profit side, I’m on the service side, giving back to the industry that has provided me so many opportunities.”

NCCI has been giving to United Way of Palm Beach County for 25 years. “I’ve built a trust with this organization,” Glenn says. “They have a well-organized approach in delivering services and creating impact in the community. I think of my donations as investments in the community.”

She also chairs United Way’s Tocqueville Society cabinet. This philanthropic giving community engages major donors to collectively donate funds and address the county’s needs and challenges. As chair, Glenn recruits members to build and strengthen United Way’s network. “If you have the opportunity to help others, you should,” she says. “Through our network and connections, together we can strengthen our efforts and impact the community.” For Glenn, giving back is like saving for a 401k retirement fund. “If I save money for myself, in comparison, I can give back a small percentage of my pay. As I make more pay, my opportunity to give back increases, fueling my ambition to give back.”
