After taking place on the Tuesday before Christmas and being aired on ESPN for five years, the Cheribundi Boca Raton Bowl is mixing things up for 2019 and will kick off on Saturday, Dec. 21, at FAU Stadium in Boca Raton.
It will broadcast nationally on ABC as well as on ESPN Radio and locally on ESPN 106.3 FM. Game day is a high-energy entertainment experience for college football fans and non-fans alike, allowing the national spotlight to shine on Boca Raton and Palm Beach County.
As one of 41 postseason college bowl games in the country and one of 15 owned and operated by ESPN Events (a division of ESPN), the Cheribundi Boca Raton Bowl is the only one hosted in Palm Beach County. Dubbed Boca’s Biggest Annual Outdoor Party, the event features all the pomp and circumstance of traditional bowl events.
The fun begins the night before with a family-friendly, country-themed pep rally, which is free and open to the public, at Mizner Park Amphitheater. Game day festivities start before kick-off with the Fan Fest and Family Midway, complete with interactive games and activities, amusement park rides, food trucks, giveaways and contests, a live performance by rock band Wolfhawk, and a face-off by the two team bands and cheerleader squads.
With Conference USA, American Athletic Conference and Mid-American Athletic Conference Bowl tie-ins, bowl week activities launch Dec. 17 with airport team arrivals and welcome parties, culminating with the pep rally and game day.
The Boca Raton Observer is an event sponsor. O
