The National Society of Arts & Letters Florida East Coast Chapter will host its 3rd Annual Star Maker Awards at The Wick Theatre and Costume Museum in Boca Raton on April 19.
During the event, NSAL scholarship and competition winners will perform, and Broadway legend Avery Sommers will be presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award for her tremendous contributions to the arts. Tickets for the event include supper, dessert and valet parking.
“The Star Maker Awards is a dazzling fundraiser featuring instrumental, vocal and musical theater performances by NSAL’s scholarship and competition winners,” says event chair Kim Champion. “We are delighted that last year’s Lifetime Achievement Winner, Marilynn Wick, has agreed to host this event at her theater, providing our young performers with the perfect venue to showcase their talents.”
Thanks to the support of NSAL members, scholarships will be awarded to students from the Lynn Conservatory of Music, the FAU School of Music and the Frost School of Music. In addition, NSAL competition and scholarship winners from around the state will be recognized for their achievements in voice, visual arts, piano and strings, and musical theater. This year’s national competition is in musical theater, and the winner of the chapter’s competition will receive a $2,000 prize in addition to an all-expense paid trip to Chicago to compete for a $15,000 prize.
Sommers starred on Broadway in the long-running, critically acclaimed musicals “Ain’t Misbehavin’” and “Showboat” as well as performing in the national tours of “Chicago” and “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.” O
