Gift of Life Marrow Registry introduced a 34-year-old stem cell donor from The Villages, Fla., to his grateful recipient – a survivor of acute leukemia - during the organization’s annual Steps for Life 5k Run & Walk in Boca Raton. Donors and recipients may not meet for the first year after transplant, so it was an emotional and heartwarming moment.
The family-friendly race and event took place on Sunday, January 22, 2023 at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton. The event was set up in the stadium and the 5k chip-timed and certified race course tours the beautiful campus. There were children’s activities on site including a petting zoo, face painting, bounce house, Superhero Sprint, music, snacks and more.
