In high school, two brothers from Boca Raton dreamed of turning their interest in e-commerce into a business on Amazon. They started by selling books and stickers to figure out the platform. Fast forward to 2023. Ophir and Uri Rahimi are the successful entrepreneurs behind Haus & Hues, a company that designs, prints and manufactures high quality, affordable art prints and frames online, primarily through Amazon and other online platforms.
Ophir, 25, and Uri, 27, who have an older sister, moved with their family from Rotterdam, The Netherlands to Boca Raton as youngsters. After attending Boca schools, (Ophir at Spanish River High School and Uri at Saint Andrew’s School), the brothers went to University of Southern California, both majoring in computer science.
Going to college together was a natural transition, says Ophir. “It brought a lot of benefits because we began our business my freshman year in college. We both didn’t get the internships we wanted, so we focused on e-commerce and grew the company to where it is today.”
From its beginnings in 2018 in a dorm room, Haus & Hues, now based in Doral, has expanded to include more than 30 employees and will soon move into a larger factory. The company, featured in People magazine and Teen Vogue, has grown to a fully integrated business from its $3,000 initial capital investment to an eight-figure run rate.
Finding their niche in art prints combined their business acumen with understanding the marketplace.
“I was disappointed in the quality and designs of wall art and the variety of art in the marketplace. Sitting in my dorm, we felt like this could be bettered and offered on Amazon,” explains Ophir. “It was a low-cost type of product. We could support American business and it allowed us to be creative.”
Subcontracting with artists, their catalog of 20 designs has grown to 6,000.
While Ophir is process-oriented and Uri is the idea person, the brothers “forgo labels,” Uri says. “We cover everything, from sourcing to manufacturing to management of leadership team.”
The Rahimis’ personal lives are also integrated. Both single, the brothers live in the same building in Miami, although in separate apartments. Any leisure time is spent hanging out with family and friends or catching up on reading. Ophir takes Spanish lessons with a tutor to better communicate with employees.
Their philosophy speaks to their generation’s social values. “We want to build a business that generates enough money so that we and our employees can live a good lifestyle,” says Uri.
