Welcome to September – that transitional time of year when summer is firmly in the rearview, the kids are back in school and season (and all the social commitments it entails) looms on the horizon. If you need help getting your head in the game, look no further than our Business & Wealth Issue, full of inspiring stories about successful people in business as well as practical advice for reaching your goals. This issue always motivates our team as we put it together, and we hope it has the same effect on you.
First, we sat down with Ryan Serhant, one of the most successful real estate brokers in the Big Apple – and the country – in “View From The Top” (page 60). The star of Bravo’s “Million Dollar Listing New York” opens up about his unlikely career path, shares his secrets to success and discusses his commitment to helping others achieve their dreams.
Next, we take a closer look at the controversial industry of multilevel marketing (MLM) – including brands like Herbalife, LuLaRoe and Mary Kay – in “Trickle-Up Economics” (page 66). While such companies are nothing new, they’re coming under increased scrutiny thanks to reports of unethical practices and stories of distributors who’ve lost major money. We even speak with area women who have worked with MLMs to get their perspective. Don’t miss it.
We’ve all heard of life hacks, right? Those clever ways to simplify everyday tasks like household chores. But what about workplace hacks? We spoke to five area experts for their advice on how to hack your workday in “Taking Care Of Business” (page 70). They offer clever solutions for everything from time management to conflict resolution to making a killer presentation.
Then, we go one-on-one with financial expert Jean Chatzky in “Dollars And Sense” (page 74) to pick her brain on all things personal finance. The New York Times best-selling author and “Today” show regular sounds off on budgeting, retirement, medical expenses and much more.
Finally, we take a trip down memory lane to where it all started: The seven individuals who helped put South Florida on the map and left their indelible mark on our corner of paradise. In “The Visionaries” (page 80), learn about the backgrounds and lasting contributions of Henry Morrison Flagler, Julia DeForest Tuttle, Carl Graham Fisher and more.
Personally, I’m going to use the month of September for a bit of self-care. Now that my children are back in school and season isn’t yet in full swing, it’s the perfect time to catch up on medical appointments, book a spa day, start a meditation practice or just set aside some “me time” for yourself. It’ll help center you and prepare you for getting back to business soon.
See you next month.
Best,
Linda L. Behmoiras
