With all the sage advice out there today about how to declutter, tidy up and go minimalist, you’d think our houses would be shipshape.
But some of us need a bit more help in the organization department.
To the rescue: Good Housekeeping, which understands our plight. Here, we share the magazine’s suggestions on how to get ready to purge.
- Write down your goals: Why do you want to get organized? What do you want to accomplish?
- Decide where your clutter is going to go. Charity shop? Recycling?
- Ask a friend to help – it’s easier to be objective about someone else’s things.
- Don’t run out to buy organizing supplies – this is just another word for more clutter.
- Take “before” pictures of each room, and workout what needs to be cleared.
- Switch to paperless, and opt to receive bank and other statements electronically.
- If you don’t love, wear or use it, it’s out.
