They say necessity is the mother of invention, and that’s certainly the case for Boca Raton resident and mom Jereann Zann.
Her daughter, Sophia, who has celiac disease and a dairy allergy, inspired Zann to create Little GF Chefs, a monthly baking subscription service.
Since Sophia can’t enjoy cupcakes, cookies and other sweets at birthday parties and other events, she felt left out. Mom to the rescue: Zann created allergen-friendly, gluten-free baking kits that are as much fun to make as they are to eat.
Ingredients in the kits are free of peanuts, tree nuts, eggs, wheat, milk, soy, fish, shellfish and sesame. Cookies and cupcakes may be king, but other options include soft pretzel bites, s’mores and donuts.
Subscriptions can be for one, three, six or 12 months, and each delivery includes a recipe, dry ingredients, decorating supplies and a cooking tool so little chefs can start their own baking collections.
“Baking helps to empower children by teaching them to have a positive relationship with food and that, no matter their diet restrictions, they don’t have to live without,” notes Zann’s website.
