The Restaurant at the Norton Museum is back with a new executive chef and a menu to match the current art exhibition. Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera and Mexican Modernism from the Jacques and Natasha Gelman Collection are on display through Feb. 6, and Chef Jair Solis Mendoza has crafted a menu with Mexican Modernism in mind. Mendoza has worked at several notable restaurants around the U.S. including The Breakers Palm Beach.
Regional dishes include Stuffed Chilies y Salmon, a pan-seared salmon filet with Oaxaca cheese-stuffed baby bell peppers, black bean muneta, cilantro crema and charred scallions; and Grilled Shrimp Tacos with guacamole, charred poblano peppers, roasted corn, lime crema and flour tortillas. Those craving a more traditional American menu, can select from the Grilled Chicken Club, Tuna Niçoise salad or the classic Norton Burger.
The cocktail menu is just as creative, featuring tasty libations like the Oaxacan Old Fashioned, Jane Daly and Seasonal Bellini.
The restaurant is now open to full capacity, offering a 165-seat indoor and outdoor dining room with floor-to-ceiling windows where diners can enjoy views of the Pamela and Robert B. Goergen Garden. The dining area also showcases a collection of art and has a private dining room for small or large groups. Restaurant hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., seven days a week with dinner seatings available until 9 p.m. on Fridays for Art After Dark. Museum admission is not required to dine, but members do receive a 10 percent discount.
