There are so many reasons to adore food legend Julia Child and one is her on-the-nose statement, “A party without cake is just a meeting.”
Julia’s larger-than-life passion for food is something that resonates deeply with me. I am definitely a foodie and I raised two sons who are as well. One of our favorite things when we travel is discovering new restaurants and food and wine venues. My sons have become whiskey connoisseurs while wine and tequila are my forte. Whether I’m at home making my favorite chicken, fish or pasta dishes, enjoying one of my favorite restaurants or on the hunt for the best pasta, pizza or gelato in Rome or Florence, food — discovering, making, eating and even photographing it — is a universal language I love to enjoy and share in Boca Raton, Palm Beach or Miami.
Which is why I am beyond elated to present our October Food & Drink Issue. Let’s start with our cover story and star: Bobby Flay. In “Two Peas In A Pod” (page 68), Iron Chef Flay chats with us about his expansive career and most recent culinary pairing with his daughter Sophie. From there we shift gears to an important global topic, offering a local perspective. “Savoring Sustainability” (page 74) explores South Florida businesses creating flavorful products while advocating for the environment.
Our editor Alona Abbady Martinez had the pleasure of chatting with South Florida’s beloved chef/restaurateur/television personality, Michelle Bernstein. Catch the tasty details in “The Mastery Of Michy” (page 80). Lastly, you’ll want to make sure the car has a full tank of gas after reading “Meet Me In Miami” (page 86), a mouth-watering breakdown of the top dining spots in, what is easily, one of the U.S.’s most dynamic culinary cities. How fortunate we are to have such top-notch restaurants in our backyard!
I hope you enjoy this issue as much as I do, and, if I may take Julia’s sentiment one step further — always make sure there’s plenty of cake!
Warmest Regards,
