Join Save the Manatee Club in a Virtual Cleanup Event, from Friday, May 1 – Friday, May 15, 2020 to help your manatees and other wildlife, and enter for a chance to win an Adopt-A-Manatee gift certificate. Here’s how it works:

1. If you are able to head outside, take a walk around your neighborhood and collect litter. You may be surprised with what you find! Remember to keep your distance from others, wear gloves, and be safe. Don’t pick up anything that could be harmful to you.

2. Share a picture of your cleanup on social media and tag it with #Cleanup4Manatees. Nice job!

3. Follow Save the Manatee Club on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter to learn more about manatees and pollution. The winner of the weekly Adopt-A-Manatee® gift certificate draw, redeemable for one manatee adoption at the Associate level, will be announced on social media.

Why? Pollution is a serious threat to manatees. They may ingest trash that they cannot see when it is caught in seagrass beds or other feeding areas. Manatees also sometimes get entangled in monofilament fishing line, crab traps, or other debris in the water. Learn more at https://youtu.be/LWb3V-EkMNg.

Even if you don’t live near manatee habitat, your actions help. Cleaning up trash in your neighborhood prevents it from moving to waterways or harming other wildlife. Plus, it keeps your neighborhood beautiful!
