Experience the stories, art and industry that built Fort Lauderdale with FREE tickets to History Fort Lauderdale, now celebrating its 60th anniversary of bringing the stories of our diverse community to life through engaging educational experiences, innovative cultural exhibits, research and preservation of artifacts. History Fort Lauderdale will, once again, take part in Smithsonian magazine’s national Museum Day, an annual celebration of boundless curiosity, on Saturday, September 17. Participating museums and cultural institutions across the country provide free entry to anyone presenting a Museum Day ticket.
Museum Day participants can explore South Florida history from prehistoric to the present. Permanent exhibits in the New River Inn History Museum include “Dugouts to Dream Yachts - the story of boat building on the New River,” “Seminole Arts & Culture,” “Archaeology of the New River,” “Henry Flagler & FEC Railroad,” “The Bryans of Fort Lauderdale,” “Juliette Lange: A Portrait of a Mezzo Soprano” and more. Also on display will be “Viva Fort Lauderdale: Celebrating Hispanic Art & Culture” featuring works by Leonardo Montoya, Lifrancis Rojas, Isabel Perez, Florencia Clement de Grandprey, Hernan Rodriquez and others talented artists.
Additionally, visitors may explore the 1907 Pioneer House Museum and the 1899 Ivy Cromartie Schoolhouse.
