The producers of “Show Her the Money,” a new feature documentary exposing the systemic funding gap for female entrepreneurs, today announced that Multiple Emmy Award® and Golden Globe® winning actress and the documentary producer, Sharon Gless (“Cagney & Lacey,” “Queer as Folk,” “Burn Notice”) will be attending the screening at the Fort Lauderdale Int’l Film Festival (FLIFF) on Friday, November 10 at 3:00 p.m. at the Savor Cinema located at 503 SE 6th Street, Fort Lauderdale.
“We are honored to have ‘Show Her the Money’ screen at the FLIFF,” said the film’s producer Catherine Gray. “South Florida is where I began my career as an entrepreneur decades over. Show Her The Money is story that’s never been told. The film addresses women getting less than 2% of venture capital and demystifies what venture capital is.
The film’s director, Ky Dickens, said, “FLIFF is a must-stop not only because of our ties to the community, but the festival’s steadfast commitment to indie filmmaking.”
“Show Her the Money” made its world premiere at The Women’s Film Festival on September 21, 2023, in Philadelphia. It will open theatrically in New York and Los Angeles on December 1, 2023.
“Show Her the Money” exposes the staggering gender gap in venture capital (VC) funding for women entrepreneurs - only 2% of $238.3 billion available goes to female entrepreneurs - while heralding the determined women and men who are vigorously and successfully upending the deeply entrenched system.
The film follows four visionary female entrepreneurs as they endure uphill battles to turn their ideas into reality. Diipa Büller-Khosla, founder of indē wild, creates beauty products based in ayurveda tradition, empowering South Asian women to celebrate heritage. Jasmine Jones, founder of Myya, wants to make shopping for mastectomy bras empowering, convenient and sexy for breast cancer survivors. Marian Leitner’s company, Archer Roose, sells luxury wines in cans while also lowering the carbon footprint of the wine industry. Vicky Pasche aspires to change the world of fashion with Dapper Boi, a gender-neutral, body inclusive apparel line.
Along with female founders, the film introduces us to female “funders,” women who invest in women-owned businesses. We meet Dawn LaFreeda, who went from waiting tables to owning more franchise restaurants than any other woman in the United States; Pocket Sun, the youngest woman ever to start her own VC Fund and recognized by Entrepreneur Magazine as one of the top 100 most powerful women in the country; Wendy Ryan, a powerhouse investor who understands the bankability of women entrepreneurs; Kelly Ann Winget, founder and CEO of Alternative Wealth Partners, alternative investment experts, industry disruptor, author, and women’s wealth/access advocate; and Emmeline Ventures (all WOC) founders La Keisha Pierre, Naseem Sayani and Azin Radsan van Alebeek.
The film features original music, including “Show Her the Money,” by Amanda McBroom and Michele Brourman. The former is best known for writing the RIAA Certified Gold® “The Rose,” sung by Bette Midler in the film of the same name, which was GRAMMY® nominated for Song of the Year. Brourman has written songs (with McBroom) for 18 animated features for Universal Studios, most notably “The Land Before Time” series. Her signature song, “My Favorite Year” has been recorded by numerous artists including Michael Feinstein, Margaret Whiting, and Dame Cleo Laine.
Multiple Emmy Award® and Golden Globe®-winning actress Sharon Gless (“Cagney & Lacey,” “Queer as Folk,” “Burn Notice”) serves as an executive producer along with Catherine Gray, Ky Dickens, Dawn LaFreeda, Diana Greshtchuk and Wendy Ryan.
