Stories on the Skin Part 1
What story does your tattoo tell?
This two-part program explores the idea of tattoos as books on the body. The focus is on the visual medium, the tattoo, and the interpretation of the story it tells that offers a deeper understanding of the artful presentation of the self to the world on the "pages" of the body. FAU Associate Professor of Art History, Karen J. Leader will show slides and clips from a multi-year creative collaboration to collect, interpret, and perform tattoo stories and will talk about the popularity of tattoos across ages and cultures.
