New Exhibition Opens with Ragtime Gala Luncheon and 1920’s Fashion Show
The Wick Costume Museum is proud to announce their Season 7 gala luncheon celebrating The Roaring Twenties. The lavish fundraiser will begin with an exclusive champagne reception in the museum to view the new exhibition. The tour will be followed by a three-course luncheon catered by The Addison and will feature a stunning 1920’s inspired fashion show and music by Maryel Epp’s Ragtime Trio. Tickets for the October 29, 2019 event, which begins at noon, are $125. Flapper-inspired chic is the suggested attire. The Museum will open for general tours and luncheons beginning October 30, with tickets priced at $48 and $58 for the added cabaret show. The exhibition will run through May. Tours require RSVP. “The 1920s were a time of dramatic change, especially for women,” said Kimberly Wick, Curator. “While the iconic “flapper” is one of the most indelible images of the era, it is only one aspect of the increasing influence women had upon this momentous decade. That is why we are very proud to dedicate an entire section of the exhibition to the Suffragettes, with a vintage wardrobe display and a multimedia presentation that celebrates the ratification of the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote.”
Prohibition also defined the decade, creating an underground culture that spawned speakeasies and fueled the Jazz Age. The Wick’s collection will bring the Great Gatsby era to life with a dazzling array of gowns, coats, hats and other stylish influences that created one of the most recognizable decades in fashion.
Of course, The Wick’s extensive Broadway Costume catalogue will be on view with glittering selections from shows that celebrate the 1920s including The Boyfriend, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, The Drowsy Chaperon and more!
And finally, The Roaring Twenties pays homage to one of the greatest designers of all-time, Erté. The Russian-born French Artist, who brilliantly captured the Art Deco era, will be represented by extravagant original and replica showgirl costumes.
