Bon Appetit calls them “the ice cream gods.”
So imagine our excitement when we heard that Salt & Straw plans to debut not one – but two – ice cream stores in South Florida. Set to open this spring in Wynwood and Coconut Grove, the shops will serve decadent small-batch ice cream designed to reflect the flavor and ingredients of our area.
“The scoop shops will feature handmade classic and seasonal ice creams, with new flavors rotating in monthly, that tell the story of Miami chefs and artisans, including a few Miami favorites such as Panther Coffee and Wynwood Brewing,” notes a press release.
The venues, the Portland brand’s first locations on the East Coast, will mirror other Salt & Straw locales, with design elements like custom terrazzo flooring, parquet wood inlay and abstract waffle-cone walls. The mood is both nostalgic and modern.
“We are eager to meet our neighbors and create a gathering place for residents and visitors of South Florida,” says Kim Malek, co-founder and CEO, who works alongside her cousin Tyler Malek.
We’re counting the days.
