The new Mandrake Miami is bringing a triple treat to Miami Beach: modern Asian cuisine, specialty cocktails and a high-energy vibe.
“Mandrake will be both an escape from the ordinary and a unique setting unseen on South Beach,” according to a press release. “Walking into the 5,000-square-foot space through turquoise-colored front doors with antique Chinese door knockers brings the sensation of stepping into a covert underground hideaway of an Asian restaurant in a bustling metropolis.”
The look continues inside with a hallway clad in vintage Chinese wooden gates, Japanese cherry-blossom branches and Christian Lacroix upholstered chairs. The venue also comprises a sushi bar, a formal dining room and a lush garden patio.
Get started with something light, like nigiri, sashimi and maki rolls as well as Izakaya-style small plates. The namesake Mandrake Roll is made with crab, salmon, hamachi and blue fin tuna, served with a creamy jalapeño sauce. Heartier options include the Whole Fish Tempura, with sweet and sour or ginger scallion sauce, and the Grilled 32-Oz. Tomahawk Ribeye Steak, which is dry-aged 28 days and accompanied by unique sauces.
This is also a place to imbibe: Cocktails pay homage to hip-hop culture, like the Future Hendricks, made with Hendricks Gin, St. Germain, cucumber, mint, lemon and matcha. Curated collections of sakes and Japanese beers are also available.
Come for the food, stay for the sheer extraness of this new spot.
