We chat with Arianne Traverso, a leader in the yoga, business and wellness space and CEO of the Yoga Expo, on why this is an event not to be missed.
Q. What is the Yoga Expo?
A. The Yoga Expo is an opportunity for people to get exposed to different types of yoga and different yoga teachers. We have over 50 classes on the schedule, so if you are a beginner, advanced or intermediate, or just want to catch some lectures, there’s a class for you.
We also have a curated marketplace of global and national brands, as well as wellness practitioners, acupuncturists, chiropractors, massage therapists, energy healers and amazing brands selling physical goods. If you really love wellness and want to have a day of self-love, you can get it all at the Yoga Expo. It is a great opportunity for yoga teachers and enthusiasts to experience a day of exposure, connection and fun.
I want to encourage people to spend a few hours at the event, meet people and allow themselves to give back to themselves. It's really beautiful!
Q. What do people look for at the Yoga Expo?
A. They want variety, connection and opportunities to immerse themselves in wellness, even if it’s just for a day. People go to meet teachers and just have fun doing yoga.
Our tagline is “celebration of consciousness,” so if we can help others celebrate consciousness, we know we are doing a good thing. I’m an immigrant woman and mom, so I know how important the self-care aspect is and making your body, mind and spirit healthy.
Q. What will people find at the event?
A. We have something for everyone. This year, we have a chair yoga class led by an instructor who had a traumatic brain injury, and it can be a very good class for people with limitations, knee or back problems. We have yoga therapy classes that are all about keeping your body healthy and about 15 lectures about women empowerment, meditation, stress management and wellness.
Q. Why is yoga so important for you?
A. Yoga changed my life. I started doing yoga when I was 21, and I was at college studying Architecture and Arts. I was super stressed, but I also lived in South Florida and liked to have fun. It wasn’t a healthy combination, especially because an architecture degree requires you to be three or four days at the studio without sleeping or eating. I started practicing yoga to relieve stress, and I had never felt the way I felt before. I was introduced to healthy eating and mindful ways of thinking. I was always sporty but never flexible, and through yoga, I learned that my body could be very flexible. I became stronger than ever and stopped stressing in the way I did. Twenty years later, I meditate and do yoga with my 3-year-old daughter. Being able to give her that gift is magical.
