Ready to watch a movie from anywhere but your couch?
Check out the City of West Palm Beach’s new socially distanced entertainment option, “Show on the Go.” The drive-in shows, featuring family-friendly films, will rotate between Dreher Park and Currie Park in West Palm Beach. Don’t forget your thinking cap: Each movie will be preceded by a trivia event.
Mark your calendar for Sept. 5, when “Jumanji: The Next Level” will get hearts pumping; Sept. 12, when “Hook” graces the big screen; Sept. 19, when “Monsters Inc.” will keep you engrossed; and Sept. 26, when “Moana” is sure to draw a crowd. Previous movies have included “Despicable Me 3” and “Grease.”
“The City of West Palm Beach is working to develop innovative ideas to maintain community bonds with the public’s safety in mind,” says West Palm Beach Mayor Keith A. James in a press release. “I hope everyone will take advantage of this safe opportunity to relax and enjoy the show.”
Gates open at 6 p.m., and movies start at 7 p.m. VIP tickets – which include front row parking and a family four-pack of popcorn, non-alcoholic beverages and candy – are available. Blankets and chairs are allowed, and facial coverings and social distancing are required when using the restroom.
“We are excited about the opportunity to provide a place for people to safely gather for a show,” says Mary Pinak, community events manager for the City of West Palm Beach’s Department of Parks and Recreation, in a press release. “While we will maintain distance and smiles are hard to see behind a mask, it will be great to see everyone out and making the most of this situation.” O
