
Shoe designer extraordinaire Stuart Weitzman knows how to put his best foot forward.
That will certainly be evident in the exhibit “Walk This Way: Historic Footwear from the Stuart Weitzman Collection,” on display at The Flagler Museum in Palm Beach through May 10.
“The collection explores how shoes have transcended their utilitarian purpose to become representations of culture – coveted as objects of desire, designed with artistic consideration, and expressing complicated meanings of femininity, power, and aspiration for women and men alike,” notes the venue’s website.

Visitors will discover 100 pairs of shoes from Weitzman’s extensive private collection that he’s assembled over three decades with the help of his wife, businesswoman and philanthropist Jane Gershon Weitzman (with whom he has two daughters). Organized by the New York Historical Society, the exhibit includes such highlights as satin wedding shoes worn in 1838 and glam-rock platform sandals from 1970s London.
“Nimble and often glittering, the show encapsulates the evolution of women’s shoes over the past 180 years – and also speaks to the history of shoemaking in America. It is a delight at every turn,” notes The Wall Street Journal.
The 76-year-old American designer – who has created shoes for the likes of Taylor Swift and Beyoncé – stepped down as creative director of his eponymous company three years ago. O
