For nearly 20 years, David A. Scott, M.D., has been caring for patients with kidney disease and related illnesses. He launched Kidney & Hypertension Specialists, P.A., in 1999, and his practice has grown to include Lon M. Sadowsky, D.O., and Armen Margaryan, M.D.
All three are board certified in nephrology, and all have been named top doctors by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd., which helps consumers find quality healthcare and top doctors nationwide. All three received their training at some of the top medical schools in the country.
Knowledgeable, professional, thoughtful, compassionate and personable are just some of the words patients use to describe the physicians at Kidney & Hypertension Specialists. Because they care for patients dealing with chronic illness, this trio of specialists knows how important it is to ensure that their patients feel both physically and emotionally supported.
Patients are treated for a variety of conditions including chronic kidney disease, complicated hypertension, end-stage renal disease, electrolyte disorders, autoimmune kidney disease, kidney transplant care and kidney stone prevention.
“Nephrologists care for some of the sickest and most complicated patients in the hospital and outpatient setting, and this is really where we shine,” says Dr. Sadowsky, who also serves as medical director at U.S. Renal Care Boynton Beach Dialysis. Dr. Scott is medical director at U.S. Renal Care Delray Beach Dialysis.
Both dialysis centers are conveniently located near the medical practices and are the only Medicare five-star rated dialysis facilities in all of Palm Beach County. The ratings are based on a number of factors, including government data and patient experiences. Only 5 percent of dialysis facilities nationwide earn that distinction.
“The whole practice delivers superlative care,” says Dr. Scott. “It’s not just one doctor or two doctors; all of us have been recognized for our excellence – in the office, in the hospital and in the dialysis clinic.”
All three also are on faculty at Florida Atlantic University Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine.
“Because we are on the faculty of the medical school, that keeps us current and sharp,” says Dr. Sadowsky.
When a patient’s kidneys fail, toxins accumulate in the bloodstream, which can lead to uremia and eventually death. The centers offer hemodialysis, which uses specialized machines to cleanse patients’ blood when their kidneys are not able to do the job. They also offer peritoneal dialysis, which can be done in-home while the patient sleeps.
Unlike many other dialysis centers where patients are seen by physician extenders, patients who visit the two U.S. Renal Care Dialysis Centers are seen at least once a week by one of the practice’s physicians as well as by nursing staff, a full-time dietician and a social worker.
“Dialysis can be a depressing thing,” says Dr. Scott. “Our centers are clean, bright and cheerful and provide state-of-the-art quality of care.”
In addition to their two offices and two dialysis locations, all three physicians are on staff at Boca Raton Regional Hospital, Bethesda Hospital and Delray Beach Medical Center and serve on a variety of hospital committees.
“I am a strong proponent of holistic care,” says Dr. Margaryan. “A lot of specialists want to address only one part of one problem. We treat patients as a whole because, in our specialty, kidneys can get involved in multiple different conditions, including heart disease, diabetes and blood pressure.”
Patients who come to Kidney & Hypertension Specialists can be assured they are receiving state-of-the-art care designed to improve their longevity and quality of life.
