Triple board-certified cardiologist, Dr. Eli S. Levine, MD is the founder of Advanced Heart & Vascular Institute in Boca Raton. He is one of the highest volume cardiac interventional operators in the country performing a wide array of complex coronary and endovascular interventions.
“We do a number of minimally-invasive procedures including advanced coronary, endovascular and structural heart disease interventions,” says Dr. Levine. “We have the newest and most advanced cardiac and vascular imaging equipment in our office.”
Advanced Heart & Vascular Institute recently added TAVR, a procedure using state-of-the-art technology where a new valve is inserted into the heart without removing the damaged valve.
“Valve replacement used to be open heart surgery and now it’s done with a tiny hole through the leg and the problem can be fixed in less than an hour in most instances,” Dr. Levine says. The valve procedures are done by Dr. Michael Schechter, MD, who is a high-volume TAVR operator and joined Advanced Heart & Vascular Institute last year.
In addition, Advanced Heart & Vascular Institute handles stenting coronary and vascular blockages, cardiac imaging, congestive heart failure, valvular heart disease and more. Doctors treat chest pains, unexplained shortness of breath, arrhythmias, palpitations, fatigue and perform preventative cardiology.
Caring for patients’ hearts is very personal for Dr. Levine — he was inspired to be a cardiologist after watching life-saving treatment his father got after suffering from a heart attack.
After years of prestigious education and multiple subspecialty fellowships, including an advanced cardiac imaging fellowship at Yale University where he trained with pioneers of nuclear cardiac imaging, Dr. Levine decided to start his own practice in order to provide highly-individualized care without worries that come with being employed by large corporations.
Most procedures are done in-house, including 3D echocardiography, nuclear stress testing, loop recorder implantation, arterial and venous ultrasounds and venous ablations. Cardiac and endovascular interventions are done at Boca Raton Regional Hospital and Delray Medical Center.
“What I like about the heart is that it’s a very complex, yet simple organ. That, along with perpetually evolving technology, make the specialty fascinating and worthwhile,” he says.
