Desiree Widstrand previously worked in corporate sales, and she knew Jonathan Larkin, owner of Busy Body Fitness in Boca Raton, for years. Her love for fitness extends over 30 years. So, when the general manager role at the gym opened, it made perfect sense for her, and they made it happen.
She’s never been happier since starting her position almost three years ago.
“I absolutely love my job and our members,” says Widstrand, 47. “It’s such a happy, healthy place to come to every day, and being surrounded by all of our knowledgeable trainers, instructors and, of course, our amazing staff – it’s the perfect combination.”
As general manager, Widstrand oversees all gym operations. She manages the fitness class calendar and all staff. She handles front-end work like member services as well as back-end issues like maintenance, marketing and payroll.
“I’m doing something that people believe in and admire,” she says. “It’s nice to be part of that image in our east Boca community.”
Busy Body Fitness Center – Premium, an executive health club, caters to athletes, politicians, business leaders, first responders, students and seniors. They have nearly a 50:50 ratio of female-to-male members, ranging in age from teenagers to beyond 90-year-olds.
“It’s inspiring to witness the hard work and dedication people apply to their daily routine,” she says. “The vibe is unique; the energy is contagious.”
Gym memberships are available month-to-month and annually. Corporate memberships and partnerships are a favorite, too. Daily and weekly options are available for nonresidents; Florida residents can try the club with a five-day trial.

You’ll find Zumba, Pilates, HIIT, yoga, stretch, BODYPUMP, Sculpt, Silver Sneaker classes and more. In fact, 50 percent of personal trainers and fitness instructors there are women.
