At Busy Body Fitness Club, working out is anything but boring.
The executive health club draws business leaders, athletes and politicians as members with its state-of-the-art equipment, top fitness trainers and spa-like towel service.
“We take pride in providing the best fitness experience of any club, and we recruit the best instructors,” says owner Jonathan Larkin. “We create the type of community where we remember your name.”
Larkin moved to Boca Raton in 1999 after retiring from a career in trade shows. He ended up buying six Busy Body gyms and retail stores out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy and built them into a chain of 25 stores with a wholesale division outfitting fitness centers for consumers, condos and country clubs across Florida.
Along the way, he took over health clubs and branded them with the Busy Body name. The flagship location is in east Boca Raton, where Larkin works out himself.
Gym memberships are offered in monthly or weekly plans for the discerning gym-goer only in town for a short while or a season.
“I get great satisfaction from providing all the tools and resources people need to have good health and to accomplish their goals,” Larkin says. “I’ve impacted the lives of a lot of people in Boca Raton.”
Exercise machines are constantly being upgraded or replaced with state-of-the-art equipment. That includes TRX suspension equipment, which is high-quality strength training using a person’s own body weight.
“I buy equipment for me, knowing members will love it,” Larkin says.
New fitness classes are continually being added, including yoga, Pilates, Zumba, spin and high-intensity interval training. The gym offers complimentary fitness assessments and body composition analysis. It also has added a juice bar.
Larkin compares the gym to the high standards of a country club, many of which use Busy Body equipment. General Manager Desiree Widstrand becomes fast friends with members and even goes paddleboarding with them on weekends.
“I hire like-minded people who are passionate about fitness, and, as a result, that energy and passion extends to our members who end up wanting to excel,” Larkin says.
