Laser Therapy
Lasers have the power to do almost anything in the medical field and Joseph Costello, D.C., DABCO, chief of laser medicine at Diowave Patient Treatment Center, invented laser technology for parent company TMA-Diowave Laser Systems, pioneering laser treatment therapy that can help reverse tissue damage and alleviate pain.
The Diowave Research and Development Center is located at the Research Park at Florida Atlantic University, where collaborative research and development is done with the university to continue to improve and manufacture the world’s most advanced laser therapy systems.
Dr. Costello runs an outpatient treatment center which uses this advanced technology.
“We treat everything from head to toe,” says Dr. Costello. “We’ve had patients that had stenosis who now can walk a mile every day. The laser therapy is painless and works when other treatments fail.”
The therapy is a series of micro-pulse laser treatments that last 10-15 minutes and can help reverse degenerative problems like spinal stenosis and peripheral neuropathy in the feet. The lasers were developed without the patient feeling heat or pain during treatment.
“Micro pulses of energy penetrate deeply, stimulating the tissue to heal, take away pain, inflammation and swelling without any burning or negative effect on the tissue,” he says.
Dr. Costello discovered the benefits of pulse laser therapy in an orthopedic residency and started a laser practice in 2003. He joined Diowave Lasers as the Chief of Laser Services in 2018 and has trained hundreds of physicians, physical therapists and sports medicine care providers in using the advanced technology.
“We were invited by Florida Atlantic University to come to the research park to set up a research and development center and outpatient treatment clinic to offer the latest and greatest technology right here in Boca Raton,” Dr. Costello says. “The most wonderful thing is seeing people change their lives who couldn’t get help with any other type of treatment. People who thought they had to live with their pain now get their life back.”
