Offering Advanced Treatments For Spinal Care And Pain Management
Using minimally invasive procedures, leading-edge technologies and an array of pain management strategies, the board certified physicians at Florida Spine Associates deliver excellent care to patients of all ages.
“We are a one-stop shop for spinal problems from the neck to the lower back,” says Philip A. Saville, M.D., a board certified orthopaedic spine surgeon.
With five locations in south Palm Beach and Broward counties, Florida Spine Associates has the latest in diagnostic technology as well as a full array of minimally invasive surgical and non-surgical treatments that help patients recover quicker and enjoy a higher quality of life.
Robert P. Norton, M.D., a board certified orthopaedic surgeon who founded the fast-growing practice, says patients appreciate receiving the full cycle of care, including telehealth consultations, advanced imaging technology, non-surgical treatments and follow-up care.
“We have a great collaborative team at Florida Spine Associates, including specialists in pain management and rehabilitation, in keeping with our commitment to excellent adult spinal care,” says Dr. Norton. “It is very gratifying to see our surgical patients walk out the door without pain for the first time in years.”
Leadership In Spinal Care
“Spinal surgery procedures have advanced dramatically in the past decade,” says Dr. Saville, who has conducted numerous research studies and presented his work at national and international meetings around the world.
For instance, he uses small tubes to access damaged spinal discs without damaging healthy muscles or nerves.
“By using minimally invasive procedures to correct painful conditions, we shorten the recovery period and get patients back on their feet more quickly,” he says. “I recently treated a neighbor who found it painful just to get into his car. But, two weeks after surgery, he was walking more than two miles a day without pain.”
“Robotic spine surgery increases surgical accuracy of spinal instrumentation while reducing radiation exposure. This reduces the rate of revision surgery for mal-positioned hardware which can be extremely beneficial to patients, hospitals, and overall cost to our healthcare system,” says Dr. Milad Alam, a board certified orthopaedic spine surgeon who works closely with his patients in creating customized non-surgical and surgical plans of care.
Dr. Saville and Dr. Norton are leaders in minimally invasive procedures to correct spinal deformities and treat spinal injuries and degenerative diseases that affect the bones, discs and other tissues.
“We can do neck and back spinal decompression procedures and spinal fusions on an outpatient basis so patients can go home the same day,” says Dr. Saville. “We want them to return to playing golf, enjoying an outdoor dinner with friends, or picking up and hugging their grandchildren.”
Dr. Norton and his colleagues are innovators in other aspects of spine surgery, such as same-day treatment for a broken bone in the back.
“We can fix the bone in a 10-minute Kyphoplasty without sedation,” says Dr. Norton, who wrote an entire chapter in a book on on this technique.
He has also written and contributed to dozens of publications on spine surgery topics in peer-reviewed journals and textbooks and has presented his research at national and international conferences. He also holds his own patent on an innovative spinal surgery device.
Pain Management
If you suffer from acute or chronic pain in the spine, muscles or joints, Michael B. Auerbach, D.O., understands how to find the right treatment.
“I listen carefully, ask what happened and discuss how pain is affecting the patient’s life,” says Dr. Auerbach, a double board certified anesthesiologist and pain medicine specialist. “My goal is to come up with a treatment plan that allows the patient to get back to enjoying life again.”
He conducts a detailed evaluation of each patient to help identify the source of pain.
“In most cases, imaging will identify the source of the pain, but, when there is a discrepancy, I treat the patient,” he says.
Dr. Auerbach offers a wide range of pain treatments, including therapeutic exercises, medications, pain injections and minimally invasive neuromodulation procedures.
“We take a comprehensive approach to help our patients return to a pain-free lifestyle,” he says. “If a patient has pain, I can help.”
