Susan Suarez Invites Families To Visit New Naples Facility
Susan Suarez says it’s vital for today’s families to understand the lessons of the Holocaust – Nazi Germany’s systematic extermination of 6 million Jews and other groups deemed “undesirable” by the Nazis.
“This was one of the darkest times in human history,” says Suarez, who is President/CEO of the Holocaust Museum & Cohen Education Center in Naples. “We all need to think about why it happened and what we need to do to address bigotry, hatred and violence in our society.”
The Holocaust Museum & Cohen Education Center – now located in a new building right off US 41 with easy access to Interstate 75 – is an ideal facility for gaining a firsthand understanding of the brutality and tragedies that began in the late 1930s and intensified during World War II.
“All our exhibits have been professionally designed, and you can see the artifacts and listen to the stories of Holocaust Survivors,” Suarez says.
Considered one of the top museums in southwest Florida, the center has space to accommodate large groups of students and other visitors.
“We had a group of 90 eighth graders come in the other morning after reading ‘The Diary of Anne Frank,’” says Suarez. “It’s a time in their life when they are forming moral values, and this type of experience can give them an invaluable perspective on today’s challenging social issues.”
Suarez has been active in the nonprofit field as a consultant, employee and volunteer while raising two children with her husband, Carl. When her children were younger, Suarez would bring them to her charity events, getting them involved in volunteer activities and learning the importance of service to others.
A graduate of Greater Naples Leadership, Suarez has been active in many area nonprofits and was past chair of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. She joined the Holocaust Museum in 2017, helping to lead a successful capital campaign that resulted in the new facility.
“Now, I’m looking forward to the next stage in our organization’s mission to inform and inspire the next generation of young adults,” she says.
Holocaust Museum & Cohen Education Center is located at 975 Imperial Golf Course Blvd., Ste. 108, Naples. For more information, call 239-263-9200 or visit hmcec.org.
