President Russ Kodner and his qualified staff of professionals at Kodner Galleries in Dania Beach bring their years of appraisal skills and experience both in the fifth-generation auction gallery and in customers’ homes.
“We offer free, no-obligation appraisals in customers’ homes, which is something they really like,” explains Kodner, a certified gemologist and a member of the Gemological Institute of America and the Appraisers Association of America. “We want to evaluate their art, watches and diamonds, and can do so with 99% of the products during our initial walk-through, unless it’s a valuable piece of art, like a Chagall, which needs to be researched. Even though styles are always changing, rare things are always in demand.”
Established in 1906 in Chicago, the auction gallery moved to South Florida in 1974 and has been at its current location since the mid-1980s, serving the tri-county area and beyond.

“When we have an auction on Wednesday night, the product is shipped on Thursday,” he says. “The items we sell are seen all over the world thanks to our Internet auctions, of which I’ve conducted close to 1,500.
“We have our name brand behind the products; people know and trust us.”
Kodner personally travels all over the world as part of his continuing education and has been doing so for 20 years. This July, for example, he will be visiting Turkey, Italy and Greece and participating in highly sophisticated museum-curated tours.
“I need to be a specialist in all fields,” he adds. “I spent six weeks in China — Chinese works of art are probably my favorite and I’ve become a master at evaluating them.”
