When Sisy Mukerjee launched her own law firm Mukerjee Law Group in 2009, she hung a poster of the original Wonder Woman, Linda Carter, in her office where it remains today. Wonder Woman has been an inspiration for the single mother of four active children ages 9 to 16 and a rescue Dalmatian-mix Roxy who goes to work with her every day.
“She sits in on meetings and guards the front door,” says Mukerjee. “Clients like her, she is the Mukerjee Law Group guard dog.”
Mukerjee Law Group is a boutique firm focusing on personal injury and homeowner insurance claims. No case is too big or small.
“I want people to understand a small firm can provide the same quality, if not better because we are not a mill,” says Mukerjee. “Bigger firms deal in volume; I am personally knowledgeable and handle every case.”
Mukerjee spent the early years of her career working on behalf of the insurance industry, but in 2005 she made the switch to working on plaintiff’s personal injury claims, homeowner claims and auto property damage claims. That experience gives her a leg up and has allowed her to obtain large settlements and payouts on behalf of her clients.
“I know my way around the personal injury and the insurance system, I how the insurance companies operate, and I know their business mentality. I know also what it takes for them to make a business decision,” she says.
Mukerjee spent the last 18 years developing litigation experience in personal injury claims, but also is aware that taking a case all the way to trial can be expensive and time consuming.
“We don’t recommend trials unless an insurance company is completely unreasonable,” says Mukerjee. “If you want to take the trial route, I will do it, but we work with clients to make reasonable decisions.”
When it comes to homeowner insurance claims, Mukerjee advises people to hire an attorney. “Public adjusters collect fees out of the insurance settlement, our fees are separate and are payable by the insurance company that is responsible,” she says.
