For over 40 years, Orthopaedic Surgery Associates, Inc. (OSA) has served Palm Beach County.
Their world-class trained physicians have provided head-to-toe orthopedic care for everyone from teens to seniors, athletes to weekend warriors, patients who’ve had failed surgeries elsewhere and those looking for the latest techniques in minimally invasive procedures.
Services include comprehensive evaluation and testing procedures; total knee, hip and shoulder joint replacement; spinal surgery including kyphoplasty, arthroscopic knee surgery, repair and reconstruction for torn ligaments and cartilage; hand and wrist surgery and rehabilitation and pain management services.
OSA has offices in Boca Raton and Boynton Beach. OSA recently opened their location in West Boynton Beach at 9868 State Road 7, Suite 225, Boynton Beach, FL 33472 in May 2022.
All physicians are board-certified and fellowship trained with specialties including hand, knee, hip, spine and sports medicine.
Stellar Patient Care
For 30 years Eric T. Shapiro, M.D., a senior partner and orthopedic surgeon, has followed a core patient care principle — diagnosing appropriately and focusing on patient well-being. “Many surgeons believe that the only way to treat patients successfully is through surgery. We make an informed decision after considering all options,” says Dr. Shapiro, who specializes in sports medicine with specific focus on shoulder and knee injuries. “In many situations, surgery is the best option. But if a more conservative approach allows for a successful patient outcome, we’ll propose the less invasive option.”
Total Joint Surgery
A hip replacement surgery is one of the most successful operations performed by orthopedic surgeons. A hip replacement restores function, removes pain and has some of the highest patient satisfaction of all surgeries performed today. If a patient with hip arthritis is no longer getting relief from their nonoperative treatment and their life is significantly impacted, then they should consider hip replacement.
Colleagues Elvis L. Grandic, M.D. and Jonathan B. Courtney, M.D., are the top total joint replacement surgeons in Palm Beach County. OSA recently added Matthew J. LaVelle, M.D. to its stellar total joint team.
Dr. LaVelle did his fellowship in Adult Reconstruction at the Columbia University Medical Center in New York.
Kyphoplasty Surgery
If you have a painful spinal condition, you need a thorough evaluation to determine the problem’s cause. “Getting the right diagnosis is critical,” says Daniel A. Baluch, M.D., who specializes in treating spinal conditions. “You can’t simply rely on imaging studies. A spinal scan might detect an abnormality, but it takes a thorough evaluation by an experienced specialist to determine whether or not it’s the cause of your pain, he says.”
Dr. Baluch can perform a kyphoplasty, a minimally invasive surgical procedure designed to stop the pain caused by a spinal fracture, stabilize the bone and restore some or all of the lost vertebral body height from the compression fracture.
State-of-the-Art Hand Therapies
With the rise in working remotely, OSA is seeing more patients with carpal tunnel syndrome, something commonly associated with computer work or repetitive hand and wrist activity. OSA is one of the nation’s most progressive groups for diagnosing and treating the condition, using methods such as ultrasound to diagnose the condition.
“What sets us apart is the process of listening, examining and coming up with a diagnosis, then taking into consideration the patient’s goals when formulating treatment options for each individual patient,” says senior partner and orthopedic surgeon Brandon J. Luskin, M.D., who specializes in conditions of the upper extremities, ranging from elbow to hand.
Dr. Luskin and Rodrigo N. Banegas, M.D., make up OSA’s orthopedic hand service.
